CN3/BIMGenetic: Strategic goal develop a product strategy to increase revenue

Background

Situation

CN3 A/S is a Danish consulting firm specializing in digitalization and advisory services within the construction industry. In 2020, BIMGenetics was founded as a spin-off from CN3 A/S. BIMGenetics sells the software Vitus, a cloud-based platform that connects 3D design with enterprise systems. The Vitus software has been continuously developed based on specific customer needs, making complex data easy for everyone to access, share, and understand.

Challenge

While developing the software there was a need to pause and systematically review the current product and identify the format in which the product should continue to exist. The project's purpose was to initiate an in-depth analysis to outline possible ways to develop and commercialize the product.

Purpose

The goal has been to increase the software's revenue through a structured delimitation of the product.

Approach & Methods

  1. Comprehensive product features analysis and the benefit the specific feature creates for the user.
  2. Mapping of various use cases, demonstrating how the product optimizes the user’s workflow.
  3. Business Model Canvas for the four segmented products, focusing on pricing, customer segments, current and new product features, competitors, required investment, and Go-to-Market strategy.
  4. Overall recommendations and strategic considerations.

Results & Effects

The process provided a structured overview of software functionality, offering detailed insight into the key features and capabilities of each identified product. Additionally, it included a thorough analysis of market insights, covering competitors and market size, to help position the software in the competitive landscape. For each software product identified, a business case was developed, outlining value, cost implications, and strategic fit. Together, these elements form a comprehensive basis for informed decision-making regarding the future direction of software development.
